We are in a climate emergency described as "Code Red" by scientists from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). We must take immediate and decisive action to avoid greater challenges in the future. By acting now, we are protecting the planet for future generations.
Our changing climate has resulted in increased temperatures and droughts that are continuing to threaten our food supply. These global climate changes are impacting the habitat and survival of wildlife and plants. Our natural populations of pollinators are declining affecting crops and wild plants.
As global temperatures rise, we are now seeing a greater frequency and intensity of forest fires due to dry conditions. A natural process in some regions is now a regular occurrence in many areas, leading to property damage, loss of wildlife and habitat, and human lives.
The greater fluctuation in our climate results in changes in the water cycle leading to flooding and serious droughts. Decreased water quality is increasing from human impacts from microplastics and contamination from industrial practices threatening wildlife and the water we drink.
"CO2 is responsible for about 66% of the total radiative forcing from long-lived GHGs since pre-industrial time, with methane (CH4) responsible for about 17% and nitrous oxide (N2O) for 6%. The global budget of anthropogenic carbon has continued to grow since 2015 due to the increase in CO2 emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) and cement production."

Despite the impacts of fossil fuels to climate change, we still rely heavily on this resource. Despite better fuel efficiency, larger vehicles and a greater number of cars on the road continue to hasten impacts of climate change.
Hybrid technology was seen as the initial step to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. Despite some limitations, it is still a practical way to make a progressive switch to cleaner technology away from fossil fuels.
Fully electric vehicles are key to cutting global CO2 global emissions. It will require clean electricity, technology that meets transportation demands and broader consumer access to cleaner power.
There is no doubt that there are natural processes that contribute to climate change. It is also clear the impacts we are having from our actions. Ultimately, we can change our actions and limit the impacts to our planet for the future. Waiting to make decisions whether to act will create far greater challenges in the future as we face increasing adverse changes to our climate by human activities.
Global Impacts start at a local level and will require the co-operation of all people and nations in their communities to make the necessary changes. We may face challenges to universal global action to makes these changes, but we must do our part to take responsibility and act now to persevere and protect our planet.
As a city, we must work harder and accept our contribution to climate change from decades of high levels of greenhouses gas emissions from our local industries. By limiting current and future industrial emissions, we will demonstrate our will and commitment as a community to recognize our impacts to protect our planet.
As individuals, we can all make a difference by changing our lifestyle for a better future. Driving less, limiting the use of plastics, planting trees and repurposing items are just a few ways to make a difference towards fighting climate change. We must work together and prevent the pollution that is threatening the future of our planet.
“The strongest governments on earth cannot clean up pollution by themselves. They must rely on each ordinary person, like you and me, on our choices, and on our will.”
— Chai Jing (Journalist, Environmental Activist)
Small changes make a big difference. If we all begin to make changes together, collectively we will have a great impact.
Be a voice for change and a better life for future generations.
Act now and participate in your community.

"What we face may look insurmountable. But I learned something from all those years of training and competing. I learned something from all those sets and reps when I didn’t think I could lift another ounce of weight. What I learned is that we are always stronger than we know. "
Don't wait as another year passes fighting our climate crisis!
